Dace Cīrule, the FICIL Energy and Green Economy work group leader, participated in today’s TV talk show “Kas notiek Latvijā?”, which focused on the Green Deal and climate neutrality in Latvia – two years since the creation of the Ministry of Climate and Energy (KEM).
During the discussion, Dace emphasized the following:
– KEM has shown positive progress over two years, but there are still challenges in its strategic direction.
– Latvia often views the European Green Deal only as an EU obligation, missing out on its potential benefits for the country. FICIL advocates for a shift in perspective, focusing on how the Green Deal can drive economic growth, create jobs, and improve sustainability in Latvia.
– Achieving climate neutrality must go hand in hand with climate adaptation. Transparent and predictable policies are needed to support both emissions reductions and climate adaptation, which are crucial for long-term sustainability and investor confidence.
FICIL is ready to contribute to discussions on CO2 storage technologies and advocates for legislative changes to enable the carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) value chain. These advancements would support Latvia’s climate goals, while also creating jobs and new economic opportunities.
