Mobile network operator Tele2 has become a member of the Foreign Investors’ Council in Latvia (FICIL).
“Tele2 is the leading mobile network operator for private customers with the ambition to expand its market share in the corporate customer sector, therefore we want to be more actively involved in public processes in the country, which are essential for further development of long-term business environment. It is important for us to work in an orderly and predictable business environment, with fair rules for all market players. We have joined FICIL to be closer to discussions about the decisions important to businessmen,” says Tele2 Board Chairman Valdis Vancovičs.
Last year, Tele2 invested around EUR 20 million in business and infrastructure development, which was the company’s largest investment over the past ten years. For the third year in a row, Tele2 was the most profitable company in the industry, and was the first in Latvia to launch 5G technology in Riga.
FICIL Board Chairwoman Gunta Jēkabsone: “We are pleased that one of the leaders in the telecommunications industry, Tele2 has joined the FICIL family. Highly developed mobile communication infrastructure is one of the advantages of Latvia, both in competing for foreign investments and developing local entrepreneurship. Telecommunications, digital services and IT are industries that generate high added value. Therefore Tele2’s knowledge and experience will contribute greatly to FICIL’s work in providing the Latvian government with forward-looking recommendations to improve the country’s business environment.”
FICIL is a non-governmental organisation, which unites 38 largest foreign-owned companies from different industries, 10 foreign trade chambers, the French Foreign Trade Advisors and Stockholm School of Economics in Riga. FICIL’s mission is to use the experience and knowledge of its members to provide recommendations for public sector to improve Latvia’s business environment and competitiveness in attracting foreign investment.
